RICH AS IN SPIRIT

This open letter is dedicated to Dequantes Devontay Lamar aka Rich Homie Quan. Happy 35th Birthday!

I admired you from a far.

I knew you as the star.

I was waiting for my chance.

To ask how to do your dance.

Your music hit me when I was young.

My adult life had just begun.

High School graduation is done.

Now its time to have some fun.

Differences come out.

Then we felt some type of way.

Once we heard Lifestyle,

We all knew you paved the way.

Your music would save the day.

Any song I would play,

I could count for days,

How many memories I've made.

I started getting older.

Life getting more tough.

I went to basic training,

It wasn’t that rough.

Closed off from the world,

We didn’t hear outside.

Then I heard the song FLEX

My ears felt a surprise!

I was feeling so alive.

That song reminds me of

Such a beautiful time.

Your music is one of your gifts.

To meet you was a wish.

Everyone else knew this.

Your presence was a gift.

Your eyes shined bright.

Your smile so big.

Your sound so unique.

Your character never hid.

True fans know,

Rich Homie was the homie.

You showed love to people.

You took care of your fam.

You were there for your kids.

You appreciated your fans.

The day I got the news,

I couldn’t believe what I saw.

For awhile I was stuck,

I didn’t know who to call.

I started to look back on it all.

I started to think of those times,

When life was so fun,

I started to feel sad.

My wish felt undone.

I knew I was too late.

People that knew you,

Started to debate.

Your true fans,

Started to speculate.

Some people even started to hate.

I just kept thinking of your fate.

I kept praying for your fam.

The love you had for others,

I pray the people who knew you

Truly heal and recover.

This loss isn’t easy.

Grief isn’t the best.

To appreciate life,

Is the ultimate test.

I saw your face

Right before your final rest.

You sat in the barber chair,

To promote your hair dress.

Dequantes Devontay Lamar,

You are so blessed.

I thank you for your test.

At your funeral,

I looked a mess.

I showed up still,

To pay my respects.

I cried so much.

My lashes fell off.

When I arrived,

I saw a lot of cops.

I got there early,

And went inside.

What I saw,

Brought tears to my eyes.

I could not believe it.

We were saying our goodbyes.

I walked inside.

I found a seat.

I saw ushers standing.

One of them greets,

He asks If I want to see?

Now personally,

I’ve seen dead bodies before.

I didn’t know what was in store.

I looked in the casket and cried.

I saw you for the very first time.

All I could think of was your eyes.

I looked a couple more times.

I felt a change in my heart and mind.

I could not help but see you smile.

It made me sit and think for awhile.

Dequantes Devontay Lamar,

I know you are at peace.

I will never forget when I sat at my seat.

I read your obituary and learned a lot.

You got offered a scholarship,

At the same school as my pops,

When I read the college:

Fort Valley State

I just knew who you saw at the gate.

I wasn’t hurt about your fate.

Instead I began to relate.

I always knew you were great.

That ain’t up for debate.

So again, I say thank you.

Rich Homie Quan,

Your inspiration has transitioned.

Beyond the physical world.

The riches you gave us girls,

Felt like diamond and pearls.

You are still the Rich Homie in deed.

Thank you for your spiritual riches.

Thank you for all your good deeds.

Thank you for blessing us with your gifts.

Rich as in spirit is helping the pain.

We will continue to honor your name.

You will be missed truly indeed.

Forever going in. May you Rest In Peace.

Love always,

-Rich Homie Malon
